Korthoff Preston Motorsports’ Sebring Campaign Cut Short: A Tale of Determination and Perseverance

Mercedes No. 32 at Sebring

SEBRING, FL (MARCH 21, 2024)

What was supposed to be the second-longest race of IMSA’s season, the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, quickly turned into the shortest for Korthoff Preston Motorsports (KPM) and their No. 32 Mercedes-AMG.

Qualifying Friday was a success for KPM. Starting the race in third position in the GTD lineup, the team swiftly advanced to a formidable second place when driver Mik Grenier showcased his track expertise, overtaking the preceding car. But just a short 35 minutes into Saturday’s 12-hour race, Mik encountered technical difficulties on track, prompting him to bring the car into the team’s pit box. Upon returning to their paddock and exhausting all efforts, the crew identified the issue as terminal, extinguishing any hopes of a Sebring podium finish as they retired the car, marking a disheartening conclusion to their Sebring campaign.

When asked about the devastating endurance round, KPM Driver Mik Grenier stayed focused on the road ahead.

Well, that was a short 12 hours of Sebring. We were in a great position early in the race but obviously it ended way too early for us. We will focus on Long Beach now.

Kenton Koch added when the crew and car are good, it's hard to have your efforts dashed by a mechanical issue.

Obviously a bummer of a weekend. We had a good qualifying result and a good race car. It’s unfortunate to have results swindled by a mechanical issue when you have good equipment and crew.
